Mediterráneo Señales Marítimas, as a company specialized in the design, manufacturing and installation of lanternhouses for historic lighthouses and other aids to navigation, had the pleasure and responsibility of carrying out the installation of the new lanternhouse of the Columbretes Lighthouse, competence of the Castellón Port Authority, last Friday 23th October 2020.
Thus, the Columbretes Lighthouse has already installed its new lanternhouse. A necessary change, since the old lantern suffered a marked deterioration over time as it was renewed for the last time almost a century ago.
The LEM300 lantern model, with 3 meters in diameter and manufactured entirely at the MSM facilities, was chosen to renew the image and structure of the lighthouse, since the LEM lanternhouses are manufactured with the best materials to withstand the harshest conditions of the marine environment. Our LEM lanterns are cylindrical with a hemispherical dome. Its cylindrical structure provides two key advantages: they consist of helical supports, to avoid dark areas and give sturdiness, and curved-glass panes to minimise refraction losses and reduce back reflections.
The operational deployment to carry out the installation of the lanternhouse was spectacular, since the two pieces that make up the lantern (a glass structure and the dome) were transferred by boat to the island, while a helicopter was in charge of executing the installation maneuver, a maneuver that the MSM technical team finished successfully.
At Mediterráneo Señales Marítimas we are proud to contribute to the preservation of this emblematic construction in a unique location, putting at its service our cutting-edge technology and our solid experience as world leaders in Aids to Navigation.
