MSM EBM30HV Elastomer Buoy Installed in Chimbote, Peru

EBM30HV Elastomer Buoy Installed in Chimbote, Peru

Published on Tuesday, 06 October of 2026

MSM has supplied an EBM30HV elastomer buoy, installed in the waters of Chimbote, Peru, as part of a Traffic Separation Scheme designed to enhance navigational safety and support the orderly movement of vessels in this port area.

The installation was carried out by the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation of the Peruvian Navy, the authority responsible for Aids to Navigation and contributing to navigational safety in Peruvian waters.

A buoy for marking a high-traffic navigation route

The EBM30HV installed in Chimbote serves as an Aids to Navigation within the Traffic Separation Scheme, helping to identify and delineate the navigation route and facilitating the safe transit of vessels.

Its configuration as a Safe Water Mark identifies a navigationally safe area with a clear and unambiguous maritime mark, an important feature in a port environment with a high volume of maritime traffic.

A buoy equipped for high visibility and autonomy

For this project, the EBM30HV has been configured with different components designed to ensure its effective identification and operation as an Aid to Navigation.

The buoy features a high-visibility tower, designed to facilitate daytime recognition, together with solar panels providing the energy required to power its equipment.

The lighting system is equipped with an MBL160 standalone LED marine lantern, a low-consumption LED solution developed to provide a reliable and efficient light signal. The assembly is completed by an elastomer float, made from a solid sheet of closed-cell polyethylene foam with a coloured polyurethane elastomer coat. This construction provides high impact resistance and prevents water absorption by the float.

Strength and durability for Aids to Navigation

MSM’s elastomer technology is particularly suited to applications requiring robustness, durability and reduced maintenance. The EBM30HV construction is designed to withstand repeated impacts and collisions without deformation, while its materials offer high resistance to corrosion and ultraviolet radiation.

In Chimbote, this combination of an elastomer float, high-visibility structure, solar power supply and LED light signal provides an integrated solution to enhance the safety and identification of the navigation route.

A new Aid to Navigation for Chimbote

With this installation, the EBM30HV has become part of Chimbote’s maritime signalling system, contributing to improved identification of the navigation route and safer maritime operations in the port environment.
