Project Overview
The Canadian Coast Guard selected MSM to supply a custom-designed MBL400S omnidirectional sector light for installation at Aguilar Point, British Columbia, Canada.
Located at the entrance to Barkley Sound, this aid to navigation serves a busy shipping route used by commercial vessels, fishing boats, coast guard vessels and recreational boaters. The project is part of the modernisation of Canada’s aids to navigation infrastructure, replacing an existing lighting system with a low-power LED solution.

Project Challenges
Aguilar Point is located along the Pacific coast of British Columbia, an area characterised by a complex geography of islands and channels, strong tidal currents, frequent fog and high levels of maritime traffic.
In this environment, the Canadian Coast Guard required a sector light capable of providing clear and precise visual guidance, while reducing the maintenance requirements and operating costs associated with traditional lighting technologies.
MSM Solution
MSM supplied an MBL400S designed specifically to meet the requirements of the installation, with white and red sectors and a flash rhythm adapted to the signalling requirements of the area.
The solution incorporates energy-efficient LED technology, precise sector definition and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing technicians to configure and monitor the equipment from a mobile device. These functions facilitate tasks such as flash rhythm programming, light intensity adjustment and monitoring of the battery and solar charging status.
The installation was commissioned by the Canadian Coast Guard and integrated into the existing aids to navigation infrastructure serving the region.

An MSM Reference in Northern Waters
The Aguilar Point installation further expands MSM’s portfolio of references in northern waters, alongside other projects developed in Canada, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Estonia.
These references demonstrate the application of MSM’s aids to navigation solutions in cold-climate maritime environments and demanding operating conditions.
