The Canadian Coast Guard selected MSM’s MBL400S LED Omnidirectional Sector Light to enhance safety in a busy channel along the Canadian West Coast. Positioned on Fiddle Reef near Oak Bay, British Columbia, this advanced lighting solution replaced the outdated incandescent lamps-based sector light that was on site.

Fiddle Reef, surrounded by numerous reefs and islets, presents significant navigation challenges despite experiencing high maritime traffic. The area serves as a vital access point for recreational and small commercial vessels. Recognizing the need for improved safety, the Canadian Coast Guard opted for modernization in 2023.

Equipped with cutting-edge LED technology, the MBL400S boasts a range of 6 nautical miles and features four high-precision sectors, including two white light sectors and two red light sectors. This configuration ensures safe navigation through the complex waters of the Fiddle Reef area.

Ease of installation, minimal maintenance requirements, and a custom-made design were pivotal in the selection process. Joe Pilgrim, a member of the Canadian Coast Guard, praised the MBL400S, stating:

“The lantern provided an excellent replacement for this site upgrade.”

Collaboration between CCG survey teams, CCG technicians, and MSM representative confirmed the accuracy and functionality of the lantern, garnering positive feedback.
