Since 2019, 1st July has become a day, promoted by IALA, to raise awareness about the importance of Aids to Navigation in order to guarantee maritime safety. AtoNs play a crucial role so that vessels that cross seas, oceans, inland waterways and channels navigate safely and, thanks to the incorporation of technological advances, they support the management of complex maritime traffic operations with higher reliability and accuracy, and they can even integrate scientific equipment for the study of ecosystems and contribute to the preservation of the environment.
This year, the MSM team celebrated WAtoN Day with a fantastic party at the headquarters in Spain with our traditional lunch, live music by the De Perdidos al Rock band and lots of fun.
In addition, MSM was also present at the official WAtoN Day event held in Tangier (Morocco) on 4th and 5th July. Our Commercial Vice-President, Mónica Herrero, and our Business Development Manager, Miloud Dardek, attended this event, where experiences and presentations on technology and Aids to Navigation were shared, and also attendees had the privilege of visiting the Cap Spartel Lighthouse, chosen by IALA as Heritage Lighthouse of the Year, the Maritime Traffic Surveillance Center of Tangier, and the Tangier Med facilities. During these two days, we have had the opportunity to learn more about the value of the Tangier AtoN network with a great reception by the IALA team, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water, and the Directorate of Ports and Maritime Public Domain (DPDPM).
See you at the next WAtoN Day in 2024.
