On 12 January 2026, Mediterráneo Señales Marítimas (MSM) celebrates 20 years of activity, two decades dedicated to maritime and inland waterway safety through the design, manufacture and implementation of Aids to Navigation (AtoN).
Since its foundation in 2006, MSM has built a strong international position based on technical excellence, technological innovation and a firm commitment to the maritime community, delivering solutions that are now operating in more than 120 countries worldwide.
Two decades of innovation in the service of maritime safety
Over the past 20 years, MSM has played a key role in the technological transformation of the AtoN sector, consistently developing solutions that are more efficient, reliable and adapted to the evolving challenges of navigation.
Some of the main milestones of this journey include:
- Development of the first rotating beacon using LED technology, setting a new benchmark for energy efficiency and reliability.
- Design of the first high-definition sector light with LED technology, significantly improving the precision and visibility of light signals.
- Innovation in buoys, with the development of elastomer buoys that are more robust, sustainable and suitable for demanding environments.
- Commitment to the renovation and preservation of historic lighthouses, combining state-of-the-art technology with respect for their cultural and heritage value.
- Creation of MSM Ocean in 2019, a division specialising in oceanographic solutions, environmental monitoring and Smart Port systems.
- Creation of MSM Academy in 2020, a specialised platform delivering in-house training programmes, IALA International Certification for AtoN Level 2 Technicians, webinars and technical resources for the global maritime community.
- Creation of MSM Offshore in 2021, focused on the marking of offshore wind farms and offshore structures.
This journey has positioned MSM as a trusted technology partner for maritime authorities, ports and infrastructure operators across all five continents.
Commitment to the maritime community and IALA
MSM’s philosophy goes far beyond the manufacture of AtoN equipment. The company maintains a strong commitment to the professionalisation and technical development of the Aids to Navigation sector, actively sharing its knowledge and expertise with the international maritime community.
This commitment is reflected in MSM’s status as an IALA Industrial Member and Member of the IALA Industrial Members Committee, through which MSM actively contributes to the development of standards, best practices and innovation at a global level.
Looking ahead: more innovation, greater reach, enhanced safety
As MSM reaches its 20th anniversary, it looks to the future with the same ambition that has driven it from the very beginning. The company will continue to focus on:
- Technological innovation as a driver of growth.
- Extending maritime safety to every corner of the world, including the most remote areas.
- Strengthening its commitment to the maritime community, supporting training, standardisation and technical excellence within the AtoN sector.
The MSM Ocean and MSM Offshore divisions will play a key role in this next phase, expanding MSM’s scope into oceanography, port digitalisation and the offshore energy transition.
Thank you to all who make it possible
This 20th Anniversary is, above all, a celebration of the people and organisations that have accompanied MSM on this journey: customers, maritime authorities, partners, agents, suppliers and technology partners, as well as the MSM team, whose talent, dedication and passion have been the foundation of every achievement.
Thanks to all of them, MSM continues, 20 years on, opening new ways on the sea.
